Medical Microbiology

The Department of Medical Microbiology is located in the laboratory at the Sasaki Polyclinical Building and includes the following specialized sections:
- Bacteriology
- Serology
- Parasitology
- Mycology
Our department plays a key role in identifying infectious diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. We are also actively involved in infection prevention and control both within the hospital and in support of public health efforts.
Our team of trained laboratory professionals is dedicated to delivering accurate and high-quality diagnostic services. We use a variety of modern laboratory techniques to ensure fast and reliable results.
Samples such as blood, urine, stool, or swabs are sent to the Medical Microbiology Laboratory to help identify the cause of an infection. The laboratory detects and isolates microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, or fungi that may be responsible for a patient’s symptoms. These samples are also analyzed to determine how the microorganisms respond to antibiotics, which helps guide effective treatment. In addition, the lab may detect antigens or antibodies. A combination of culture, molecular, and serological techniques is used to ensure fast, accurate, and reliable results to support timely diagnosis and treatment.
This information helps your healthcare team diagnose your condition quickly and choose the most appropriate care for you.
