LABHOH specializes in the areas of Clinical Chemistry & Haematology, Medical Microbiology, and Pathology based on the latest international rules and regulations.
Diagnostic Tests
General Diagnostic Tests
We are an industry leader in ensuring exceptional quality testing in our state-of-the-art facilities. Diagnostic tests are used to detect, confirm, or rule out the presence of a disease or medical condition. They can be used to screen for certain conditions in people who are at increased risk; to evaluate the effects of treatment; or to monitor disease progression.
- Complete blood counts
- Anticoagulant Therapy Monitoring
- Blood Chemistry Analyses
- Therapeutic drug monitoring
Genetic Tests
Genes are DNA instructions that we all inherit from our parents. Different “mistakes” in our genes, called mutations, can cause different diseases. Some of these diseases are rare, like cystic fibrosis or Huntington’s disease, others are common, like cancer. Genetic tests can be used to confirm the diagnosis or give you information about possible development of a disease.
- PCR
- DNA Sequencing
- Cytogenetics (Karyotyping and FISH)
- Microarrays
Molecular Testing & Oncology
Our comprehensive and highly sensitive and specific range of tests can detect genetic alterations that drive tumor growth in all types of cancer. We are highly experienced in characterizing mechanisms of action of targeted therapies, particularly against epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), as well as other tyrosine kinase inhibitors. We perform:
- Mutation analysis in tumor tissue and blood
- Gene amplification and translocation testing
- Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
- Gene expression
Cytology
Cytology is used to examine the microscopic appearance of cells. It is a minimal invasive technique and cost efficient to diagnose abnormalities, precancerous changes, cancer cells and infections.
- Gynaecological Cytology
- Non-Gynaecological Cytology
- Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology
- Rapid On-Site Evaluation
Histology
Histology examination is to manage the processing of tissue and perform technical components of making slides from tissues for microscopic evaluation by a pathologist. These components include the process of fixing the tissue, embedding in paraffine, sectioning of tissue onto slides and staining on the slides.
- Frozen section examination
- Immunohistochemistry
- Silver-enhanced in situ hybridization Her2Neu
- Special stains
- Medical Autopsy
- Veterinary Pathology
Histology
Our SANAS accredited histology laboratory offers a diagnostic service to both the private and public sectors. Our large team of anatomical pathologists, technologists and technicians, with vast amounts of experience offers a diagnostic and consultative service on a number of tissue samples including biopsies and resection specimens.
- Immunocytochemistry
- Immunofluorescence
- Electron Microscopy
- Neuropathology
Additional Laboratory Services
Results of most test procedures processed on-site are reported to the healthcare provider the same day during regular business hours. Testing and services available through our laboratory include:
- Blood Bank / Transfusion
- Immunology and Flow Cytometry
- Reference Lab Testing referrals
- Food Handlers testing
- Water testing
- Workplace and Random Drug testing
- Immigration Permit testing
- Molecular Pathology
- Bone Marrow Biopsy
- Coagulation
- Pathology & Cytology
- Urinalysis
- Veterinary Pathology
- DNA Paternity Test
- Semen Analysis
- NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing)
LABHOH sends the results of the examination to your physician or medical specialist, with whom you will discuss the results. If it is a test requested and paid for by the patient, it is possible to request the result at LABHOH’s main location at Horacio Oduber Hospital with valid identification.
The patient’s blood is stored at the LABHOH facility for 3 days in case the physician or medical specialist wants additional tests to be examined.
PAP smear tests, and stool, and urine samples can be submitted at all of our LABHOH locations.
PAP smear test samples can be stored preferably in a refrigerator where it is cool. Under no circumstances should it be stored or placed at a warm temperature.
At LABHOH, we’re committed to serving our communities with answers quickly and reliably every day. Therefore, results of most test procedures processed on-site are reported to the healthcare provider the same day during regular business hours. However, depending on the extensiveness of a test, results can also vary for up to 3 days. The results of PAP smears test samples takes typically around 14 days.
